Frequently asked questions

Which Shenzhen station is most central?

Futian is in the heart of the central business district and is the most convenient for most visitors. Shenzhen North offers the widest range of onward high-speed connections to the rest of China.

Can I continue to Hong Kong from Shenzhen?

Yes. Cross-border high-speed trains depart from Shenzhen North and Futian stations to Hong Kong West Kowloon. Journey time is around 15–20 minutes. You will clear both Chinese and Hong Kong immigration at the departure station.

Is it faster to take the train or the metro between Guangzhou and Shenzhen?

High-speed train is significantly faster for the intercity journey. The intercity metro (Guangfozhao line network) does not directly connect the two cities centre-to-centre. For door-to-door travel, the high-speed train with metro connections at each end is the most practical option.

Do I need to book ahead?

This route has very high frequency—often trains every 10–15 minutes during peak hours. Same-day tickets are usually available, though booking ahead through a reliable service avoids queuing at the station.

Which Guangzhou station should I depart from?

Guangzhou South is the high-speed hub for G trains. Guangzhou East serves the older intercity rail to Shenzhen and Hung Hom (Hong Kong). Check which type of train and station suits your starting point in Guangzhou.
