We collect the following personal data when you place a booking:

  • Full name (as shown on your passport)
  • Passport number, nationality, and date of birth
  • A scan or photo of the passport photo page
  • Email address and phone number
  • Payment information (processed by Airwallex — we do not store card numbers)
  • Journey details (route, date, seat class)

We also collect anonymised analytics data (pages visited, session duration) to improve the service. This data does not identify you personally.

3. Why we collect this data

We use your data for the following purposes:

  • To fulfil your booking: China Railway requires full passport details for identity verification on every ticket.
  • To communicate with you: We send booking confirmations, ticket updates, and support responses to the email address you provide.
  • To process payment: Payment data is passed to Airwallex for secure processing.
  • To comply with legal requirements: We may be required to retain booking records for a period required by applicable law.

4. How we share your data

We share your passport details and journey information with our local ticketing partners in China solely for the purpose of purchasing your train ticket. We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We share payment data with Airwallex solely for payment processing. We may disclose data where required by law.

5. Data retention

Booking records including passenger details are retained for up to 12 months after your travel date to support refund requests and resolve disputes. Passport scan files are deleted from our systems within 30 days of ticket issuance. Anonymised analytics data is retained indefinitely.

6. Security

All data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections. Payment processing is handled by Airwallex, a licensed payment service provider, and card data never passes through our systems. Passport files are stored in encrypted cloud storage with access restricted to authorised personnel.

7. Your rights

8. Cookies

We use essential cookies required for the booking flow (session state, authentication) and anonymised analytics cookies via Vercel Analytics. We do not use advertising cookies or share cookie data with ad networks.

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised. Continued use of the service after changes are published constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
